2 lbs. ground round, browned and drained (leave in fairly large chunks if possible)
1/2 tsp. salt
6 cups boiling water
1 pkg. dry onion soup mix
1/4 tsp each oregano, basil and seasoning salt
1 8oz. can tomato sauce
1 Tblspoon soy sauce
1 cup diagonally sliced celery
1/4 cup sliced carrots
1/3 cup dry split peas(or more…they tend to thicken the soup a bit)
1 cup elbow or bow tie pasta
Mix the ground beef, seasonings, soup mix, tomato sauce, hot water and soy sauce. Cover and cook for 15 minutes. Add the vegetables to this mixture, cover and simmer for 30 min. Stir in pasta and cook for 30 more minutes. Serve, if desired, with parmesan cheese sprinkled on top.
If soup gets too thick, thin with a little more water or tomato juice.
