Cream butter, add sugar and continue creaming.  Beat in whole egg.  Stir in vanilla.  Add sifted ingredients alternately with milk.  Turn in greased 9&#8243; pan.  Prepare sauce by heating sugar, cherries, jc., and boiling H2O, and pour over batter.  Bake 35-45 minutes @ 350.
