Brown approx. 1/2 c. onions in 1 good T. shortening.
Add 2 cloves garlic
Add:
1 lg. can tomatoes 2/6 oz or 1 lg can tomato paste
2 c. water
1 t. salt
1/2 t. oregano
1/2 t. pepper
1-2 bay leaves
Cook slowly for at least 1 hour.
Combine:
2 well beaten eggs
3/4 lb. ground beef
1/4 lb ground pork
1 c. fine bread crumbs
1/2 c. milk salt (approx. 1/2 t.)
pepper–1/4 t.
Form in small balls–brown in hot fat. Add to sauce and cook over low heat at least 15 minutes.
