2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/8 t. salt
1/2 t. baking pwd.
1 c. butter or marg.
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg unbeaten
1 t. vanilla
1 c. chopped walnuts
1/4 chopped, candied cherries Red food coloring
1–ounce block unsweetened choc. (melted)
Sift flour, salt and BP together. Work butter and sugar in a bowl until creamy. Stir in egg and vanilla. Gradually stir in flour mixture. Mix thoroughly. Divide into 3 equal parts. Set 1st aside for vanilla layer. To 2nd add cherries and enough red coloring to tint light pink. Blend choc. and nuts into 3rd. Chill until they can be handled. Shape each into 12″x2x1/2″ length. Put together with pink layer between. Chill until firm. Slice 1/8″ thick and bake on ungreased baking sheet. 350–10 minutes.
